Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) provides qualitatively differentiated learning experiences for students with unique abilities, interests and talents in all academic areas and/or visual and performing arts with the expectation that students will be successful learners capable of performing at high levels of ability. Research has shown that specialized instructional strategies, along with opportunities for gifted students to interact with each other on a daily basis, yield higher academic performance, as well as improved social and emotional well-being.
Are you interested in having your child tested for G.A.T.E.?
CVUSD GATE identification begins in third grade. All third grade students have the opportunity to participate in GATE testing conducted in January each year. If you are interested in having your student tested for GATE at the middle school level, talk with your child's teacher regarding a referral. Although parents may submit a GATE referral independently, a teacher referral will also be requested to provide additional assessment information which aids in the identification process. If you choose to refer your student for GATE, complete the GATE referral form found below and send directly to Student Support Services with a letter explaining your reasoning behind the referral: Student Support Services CVUSD 1400 East Janss Road Thousand Oaks, CA 91362
